MINOT — A Poland man was apprehended early Monday morning after allegedly stealing a vehicle and stabbing an acquaintance in Minot.
At 4:56 a.m., Androscoggin County Sheriff’s deputies received a disturbance call from a West Minot Road residence.
The caller reported that a blue Ford F150 had been stolen by the suspect, later identified as 20-year-old Payton Hamilton of Poland, who was spotted heading towards Mechanic Falls.
Mechanic Falls Police encountered the stolen vehicle, leading to a pursuit that ended when Hamilton crashed into a utility pole on Robinson Hill Road in Oxford.
Hamilton sustained minor injuries in the crash and was taken to a local hospital before being booked at the Androscoggin County Jail.
Hamilton faces multiple charges, including eluding an officer, violation of conditions of release, OUI refusal, theft by unauthorized taking, and burglary.
Later that morning, at about 10:00 a.m., Lewiston Police requested sheriff’s deputies to investigate a stabbing at Central Maine Medical Center.
An 18-year-old male victim identified Hamilton as his assailant.
The stabbing reportedly occurred prior to the vehicle theft.
Hamilton was subsequently charged with aggravated assault and an additional violation of conditions of release.
His bail has been set at $50,000 cash.
