COHASSET — A 34-year-old West Yarmouth man was arrested Monday morning following a serious crash that left a utility pole snapped and an SUV heavily damaged on North Main Street, Cohasset police said.
Authorities responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash near Ripley Road shortly before 5 a.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered an abandoned 2012 Nissan Pathfinder with significant damage, but no driver at the scene.
Cohasset K9 “Einstein” was deployed to assist in locating the vehicle’s operator.
The driver, identified as Christian W. Chapman, was found by officers in the vicinity of North Main Street and Rocky Lane around 4:45 a.m.
After conducting a brief investigation, Chapman was arrested and booked on multiple charges, including operating under the influence of drugs, negligent operation of a vehicle, leaving the scene of a crash, speeding, and failure to drive in marked lanes.
The collision resulted in the total loss of the 2012 Pathfinder.
North Main Street was closed between Jerusalem Road and Ripley Road well into Monday afternoon as utility crews worked to replace the downed pole.
Chapman refused medical treatment following the incident.
