One dead, two injured in early morning Marlboro crash

MARLBORO — A two-vehicle collision on Vermont Route 9 near MacArthur Road claimed the life of a Massachusetts man and left two Vermont residents with non-life-threatening injuries early Friday morning.

Marcus Lapointe, 23, of Auburn, Massachusetts, was pronounced dead at the scene after his 2019 Nissan Altima collided with a 2017 Jeep Renegade, driven by Tyler Colford, 38, of Jacksonville.

Colford and his passenger, John Ferguson, 37, also from Jacksonville, were transported to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital.

The crash occurred around 6 a.m. under cloudy skies with wet road conditions.

Both vehicles were totaled.

Vermont State Police, along with their Crash Reconstruction Team, are investigating the cause of the accident.

The Marlboro Volunteer Fire Department, Brattleboro Fire Department, and Rescue Inc. assisted at the scene.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the crash to contact the Vermont State Police Westminster Barracks at 802-722-4600.

The investigation is ongoing, and court proceedings, if any, will be scheduled at the discretion of the court.

Witnesses are encouraged to verify arraignment times with the criminal court clerk.
