MORRISTOWN — A series of mailbox explosions on Walton Road has triggered a multi-agency investigation, according to local authorities.
The Morristown Police Department responded to the first incident on Jan. 10 at approximately 9:38 p.m. after receiving reports of an explosion.
The initial probe revealed that a mailbox had been destroyed by an explosive device.
A second report came the following day, Jan. 11, when at around 4:00 p.m., another Walton Road mailbox was found vandalized in a similar fashion.
The damage was believed to have occurred at about 1:15 p.m. Further reports emerged of multiple mailboxes in the nearby towns of Wolcott and Johnson also being vandalized with explosives during the same period.
The Lamoille County Sheriff’s Department, Morristown Police Department, and the United States Postal Service Inspectors are now conducting a joint investigation.
Current findings suggest the vandalism was random and not targeted at any specific individuals or addresses.
Law enforcement officials are reaching out to the community for assistance.
They urge anyone with information about these acts of vandalism to contact the Morristown Police Department at (802) 888-4211 or the Lamoille County Sheriff’s Department at (802) 888-3502.
Chief Jason Luneau has been listed as the point of contact for this ongoing investigation.
