SPRINGFIELD — A local man was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of drugs and heroin possession after a traffic stop at the Springfield Dam, authorities announced Tuesday.
Robert Williams, 36, of Cavendish, was taken into custody on Nov. 8, after Springfield Police Department officers responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver at around 8:53 a.m.
According to the police report, Williams showed several signs of impairment during the initial encounter and failed the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests administered at the scene.
Following his arrest, a consented search of Williams’ vehicle led to the discovery of suspected heroin, police said.
Sgt.
King of the Windsor County Sheriff’s Department, a certified Drug Recognition Expert, conducted a further evaluation of Williams, which resulted in a recommendation for a toxicology examination.
Williams voluntarily provided a blood sample, which was sent to the Vermont Forensic Laboratory.
The subsequent toxicology report indicated the presence of impairing substances in Williams’ system at the time of the incident.
On Jan. 3, at 9:07 a.m., Williams was issued a criminal citation to appear in the Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division, Windsor Unit, on March 11, at 8:30 a.m. to respond to the charges.
