Bridgeport man arrested on multiple charges involving child sexual assault

BRIDGEPORT — A 65-year-old Bridgeport man was arrested on multiple charges, including risk of injury to a child and first-degree sexual assault, following an investigation by the Bridgeport Police Department’s Special Victim’s Unit.

On Dec. 9, police responded to a reported sexual assault of a child under 10 on the East Side.

The SVU led by Detective Brian Coyne identified Matthew Moales as the suspect and issued an arrest warrant charging him with four counts each of risk of injury to a child, sexual assault in the first degree, and illegal sexual contact with a victim under 13.

Moales was taken into custody on Jan. 10 by the US Marshal’s Violent Fugitive Task Force along with the SVU.

He was arraigned at Bridgeport Superior Court this morning, with bond set at $750,000.
