CHARLOTTE — A tractor trailer carrying an unknown liquid overturned on Ethan Allen Highway near Nature’s Way on Jan. 7, causing a temporary shutdown of the roadway due to icy conditions.

Vermont State Police arrived at the scene around 4:32 p.m. to find the 2016 Kenworth W900, operated by Daniel Lavictoire, 44, of Ontario, CA, blocking both lanes of traffic.

Reports indicate that Lavictoire, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured in the crash.

The investigation revealed that the tractor trailer encountered a snow drift and areas of black ice, leading to a temporary loss of control.

Despite Lavictoire’s efforts to regain command of the vehicle, it jackknifed and rolled onto its side.

The tanker trailer was totaled in the incident, but there was no hazardous material leak.

A diesel spill from the truck’s fuel tank was quickly managed and did not pose an additional threat to public safety.

Responding to the accident alongside Vermont State Police were members of the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles, Shelburne Police Department, Charlotte Fire Department, Shelburne Fire Department, and Rick’s Towing.

Authorities have reduced traffic to one lane as cleanup operations continue and have urged motorists to seek alternative routes.

Witnesses or individuals with information regarding the crash are encouraged to contact the Vermont State Police Williston Barracks at 802-878-7111.
