SMITHFIELD — The Smithfield Police Department has apprehended a suspect in connection with a break-and-enter incident that occurred on January 6 near the North Providence town line.
Authorities responded to a call at approximately 9:30 a.m. after a resident encountered an intruder at their Ridge Road home.
Police confirmed forced entry and obtained images of the suspect from the home’s Ring doorbell camera, which showed the individual arriving in an older model Nissan Altima.
Following an appeal for public assistance, Smithfield Police successfully located and arrested 58-year-old Dennis Dussault of Pawtucket at around 10:00 a.m. on January 7.
Dussault is charged with “11-8-2.2 Breaking and Entering of Dwelling when a Resident on the Premises,” a serious offense under Rhode Island law.
Dussault is expected to make his initial court appearance at the Kent County District Court this afternoon.
The Smithfield Police Department has not released further details about the circumstances of his arrest or any potential motives for the crime.
