MONKTON — On Jan. 7, a two-vehicle collision on Bristol Road resulted in both cars being totaled due to one driver’s failure to adjust to snowy road conditions.

At approximately 5 p.m., Vermont State Police arrived at the scene near 2710 Bristol Road where Frances McDowell, 38, of Weybridge, crashed her 2020 Chrysler Pacifica into the rear end of a 2014 Subaru Forester operated by Chase Messner, 28, of Ripton.

The incident occurred as Messner had stopped to help another motorist who had veered off the roadway.

McDowell, who was traveling too fast for the snowy conditions, was unable to decelerate in time, causing substantial damage to both vehicles.

Despite the severity of the crash, neither driver sustained injuries.

Both McDowell and Messner were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision.

The Bristol Rescue Squad evaluated both drivers at the scene.

The Monkton Fire Department also provided assistance during the incident.

McDowell has been cited for traveling too fast for conditions and hazards.

State Police are reminding drivers to exercise caution and adjust their speed accordingly during adverse weather conditions.
