KEENE — A high-speed pursuit involving New Hampshire State Police and Keene Police Units ended in the arrest of a Nelson man on Jan. 8 after deploying tire deflation devices to halt the fleeing vehicle.

Daniel Schillemat, 57, led officers on a chase that began in Sullivan and continued into Keene on Route 9 around 9:30 a.m. Keene Police strategically positioned themselves to assist state troopers by placing tire deflation devices along the route.

Despite the efforts to stop him, Schillemat allegedly attempted to run down a Keene officer with his Nissan pickup truck on Route 12 as the officer was deploying a device.

The officer narrowly avoided injury.

The pursuit continued until Schillemat’s truck was disabled by tire deflation devices at the intersection of Route 101 and Optical Ave.

He was subsequently apprehended on Route 101 near Branch Road.

Schillemat faces charges of Disobeying an Officer, Reckless Conduct, a felony, and Reckless Operation.

He is held on $2,500 cash bail pending his arraignment in the 8th Circuit Court-District Division, Keene.

Authorities indicated that Schillemat might face additional charges from both the Keene Police Department and the New Hampshire State Police as the investigation continues.
