BOSTON — A traffic stop in Dorchester led to the recovery of a firearm and the arrest of an East Boston man on Tuesday night, according to the Boston Police Department.

At about 8:28 p.m., members of the Youth Violence Strike Force pulled over a vehicle on Quincy Street near Howard Avenue after noticing it lacked proper license plate illumination.

Upon engaging with the driver, identified as 46-year-old O’Neal Hall, officers learned he was operating the vehicle without a valid driver’s license.

After Hall exited the vehicle, officers conducted an inventory search and discovered a Century Arms Cenik Mette MC9 handgun with seven rounds in the magazine.

A subsequent search revealed a plastic bag containing crack cocaine in Hall’s possession.

Hall was handcuffed and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm on a public way, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, and possession of Class B drugs.

He is slated for arraignment in Roxbury District Court.
