EAST GREENWICH — A series of arrests have been carried out by Rhode Island law enforcement, targeting offenses ranging from financial fraud to child pornography and casino cheating.
On Dec. 24, members of the Financial Crimes Unit apprehended Jennifer L.
Garnett, 47, on charges of obtaining property by false pretenses, giving false documents to a public official, and fraudulently obtaining assistance.
Following her arrest, Garnett was processed and arraigned by Judge Goldman, then released on $5,000 personal recognizance.
The Gaming Enforcement Unit made two separate arrests.
On Dec. 28, Daryl A. Fennell, 39, was taken into custody on a casino floor and charged with one count of casino cheating.
Fennell was processed at the Lincoln Barracks and released on $5,000 personal recognizance after appearing before a Bail Commissioner.
On Dec. 30, Antonino Goncalves, 45, turned himself in and was charged with one count of vandalism/malicious damage to property.
Goncalves was arraigned by Judge DeBose and released on $2,000 personal recognizance.
Members of the Computer Crimes Unit/Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force arrested Michael Arruda, 46, on Jan. 2 for possession of child pornography.
Arruda was held as a probation violator after being arraigned and was later transported to the ACI.
On Jan. 3, the HIDTA Task Force arrested Fernando Gutierrez, 31, on multiple charges including possession with the intent to deliver cocaine and Adderall, resisting arrest, and failure to appear for previous court dates.
Gutierrez was held without bail after being arraigned in Sixth Division District Court.
The same day, Alexis Teves, 24, was charged with possession of child pornography.
Teves was processed and arraigned with bail set at $2,500 personal recognizance, with special conditions including restricted Internet access and no unsupervised contact with minors.
Also on Jan. 3, Austin Pereira, 19, was charged with failure to register as a sexual offender.
Pereira was held pending a status conference after being presented as a bail and probation violator at his arraignment in Third Division District Court.
