SWANTON — A serious two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Woods Hill Road and Bushey Road on Jan. 7, leaving four people injured under harsh winter weather conditions.
According to Vermont State Police, the crash happened at 10:26 a.m. when a 2014 Ram truck operated by James Gebo, 66, of Fairfield, failed to stop at the stop sign on Bushey Road.
Gebo’s truck then broadsided a westbound 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 on Woods Hill Road, driven by Diane Bocain, 78, of Montgomery.
The impact caused both vehicles to depart the road and come to rest in a field northwest of the intersection.
Gebo and his passenger, 65-year-old Paula Gebo, along with Bocain and her passenger, 94-year-old Richard Bocain, all sustained likely serious injuries but remained alert and conscious following the crash.
They were all wearing seat belts at the time of the incident.
Swanton Fire Department and three area rescue squads, Amcare, Missisquoi, and Enosburg, responded to the scene to assist with extrication and medical care.
All four individuals were transported to Northwestern Medical Center (NWMC) for treatment.
Both the Ram and the Silverado suffered heavy damage, with the truck incurring heavy front-end damage and the Silverado showing heavy damage to the driver’s side panels.
State Police are conducting a preliminary investigation and have reported compromised road conditions due to partial snow cover, which may have contributed to the collision.
Authorities are urging anyone who might have witnessed the crash to contact the Vermont State Police at St. Albans to aid in the investigation.
