WELLS — Maine State Police are investigating a tractor trailer crash that occurred on the Maine Turnpike on Monday.
At around 4:43 p.m., Troop G troopers responded to the incident at mile marker 18 in Wells, where a northbound tractor trailer lost control.
The driver of the truck veered through the median guardrail, crossing the southbound lanes before coming to a halt in the tree line.
Fortunately, the driver emerged unharmed, and no other vehicles were implicated in the crash.
While the exact cause is still being determined, preliminary findings suggest driver fatigue may have played a role.
Authorities have not issued any citations at this time.
Despite the severity of the accident, traffic on the turnpike was largely unaffected in both directions.
Troop G received assistance from the MSP’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit, Turnpike Maintenance, National Towing, and Maine DEP in managing the aftermath of the crash.
