SWANVILLE — A pickup truck explosion on Sunday evening has led to the arrest of a 20-year-old man on arson and related charges, according to the Office of Maine State Fire Marshal (FMO).

Maine State Police called in FMO investigators around 9:08 p.m. after the incident, which occurred at 7:30 p.m. at 1475 Swan Lake Ave. in Swanville.

Initial efforts by the state troopers led to the identification of a person of interest, Patrick Kane of Topsham.

Kane, who was out on bail for a previous arson charge from early this year, was located and detained by officers from the Gardiner Police Department.

Fire Investigators, who simultaneously arrived in Swanville, began an origin and cause investigation into the explosion that took place in the back of the parked pickup truck.

Investigators, after conducting multiple interviews including one with Kane, determined there was probable cause to arrest and charge him with Arson and Violating Conditions of Release.

Kane was transported to the Waldo County Jail and was denied bail.

He is scheduled to be held pending a court appearance for the new charges.

The investigation into the explosion is ongoing, and authorities have not released further details at this time.
