LEICESTER — A joint operation by the Leicester and Spencer Police Departments, as part of the Western Worcester County Major Crimes Task Force, has resulted in the arrest of a Puerto Rican man and the seizure of a significant amount of cocaine.
On Monday, the LPD K-9 unit, along with other task force members, executed a search warrant at a Leicester home.
They discovered a kilo of cocaine, estimated to have a street value of $80,000, and over $4,000 in cash.
The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Luis Daniel Burgos Cruz from Canovanas, Puerto Rico, was arrested at the scene.
After being booked, his bail was set at $10,000.
Burgos Cruz faced arraignment in East Brookfield District Court on Tuesday, where he was charged with trafficking in cocaine (200 grams or more) and conspiracy to violate the drug law.
Following a dangerousness hearing held today, Burgos Cruz is being held without bail and is scheduled for a detention hearing on Tuesday, Jan. 14.
The Massachusetts State Police provided assistance at the scene and offered translation services during the booking process.
