BOSTON — Boston Police Department issued a community alert about a scam involving an individual impersonating a detective from the BPD Human Trafficking Unit.
According to the alert, victims are being contacted by scammers claiming to be a Boston Police Detective.
The impersonator alleges that the victims have been involved with commercial sex websites and demands payment to avoid the issuance of search warrants or to halt investigations.
The police are urging anyone who has been a target of this scam to report the incident to the Boston Police Department.
They emphasize that in cases of criminal activity or when police assistance is needed, the public should immediately call 9-1-1.
