Woman faces charges after DUI incident, threats to police in Newport Center

NEWPORT — On Dec. 6, Vermont State Police arrested a Derby woman on multiple charges including DUI, negligent operation, criminal threatening, and disorderly conduct after an incident on Gage Road.

Authorities received a call about a vehicle that had driven across a lawn and became stuck on a Newport Center property.

The caller indicated the driver appeared impaired and was making threatening statements about possessing a gun.

State Police, along with the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department and Newport Police Department, responded to the scene.

The driver, identified as 32-year-old Rebecca Ray, was apprehended following a brief standoff.

During the incident, Ray reportedly yelled obscenities and threatened to shoot the officers.

She was transported to North Country Hospital due to her high level of intoxication and was processed for DUI.

Ray was issued a citation to appear in court to face the charges stemming from the incident.
