Woman arrested for DUI, child endangerment in Townshend

TOWNSHEND — A woman faces multiple charges including driving under the influence and cruelty to a child after an incident on VT Route 30, the Windham County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Alison C. Freleng, 35, of Jamaica, was arrested on Jan. 5 after deputies responded to a broadcast from VT State Police warning of a white Jeep unable to maintain its lane and traveling south from Jamaica.

At around 5:15 p.m., the vehicle was spotted in Harmonyville, narrowly missing a Sheriff’s patrol car.

The Jeep was pulled over near the River Bend Motel, where Sgt.

Norton observed signs of impairment in Freleng’s behavior.

A minor child was also present in the vehicle, improperly seated in the front passenger seat.

Freleng was charged with her second offense of driving under the influence, grossly negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and cruelty to a child.

Following processing, she was released to a responsible adult with a citation to appear in Windham Superior Court, Criminal Division on a later date.
