BOSTON — A traffic stop in Dorchester led to the arrest of a 20-year-old man and the seizure of a loaded firearm and drugs, Boston Police announced Monday.
Manuel De Rosa of Dorchester was taken into custody on Sunday after officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) observed a Maserati accelerating unsafely and running a red light on Columbia Road.
The stop occurred at 40 Bird Street after the vehicle failed to move through a green light and subsequently ran the red light.
Police described the arrest in a statement saying that during the stop, the officers encountered four individuals inside the vehicle.
De Rosa, a rear-seat passenger, exhibited behavior that led officers to believe he was armed.
Despite initial resistance, De Rosa was frisked and found to be carrying a Walther CCP 9mm handgun in his waistband, which was loaded and had a defaced serial number.
After a struggle, De Rosa was subdued and arrested.
Officers also found several pills in his possession during the booking process.
He faces multiple charges including unlawful possession of a firearm and drug possession and will be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
The driver of the vehicle was cited for negligent operation and will also face court proceedings.
