EVERETT — A local man was arrested on animal cruelty charges after a concerned citizen provided police with a video showing the suspect striking a cat with a belt.

Hector Quijada-Portillo, 44, was taken into custody without incident after Everett Police responded to a call at 615 Broadway late last night.

The tipster had entered the police station just after 9 p.m. to show officers the disturbing footage of Quijada-Portillo allegedly abusing the animal.

Following the arrest, the cat was safely secured by Everett’s Animal Control Officer.

Quijada-Portillo, who also had an outstanding warrant, is expected to be arraigned on Monday in Malden District Court on animal cruelty charges.
