CARIBOU — Local authorities arrested a man Thursday morning after a series of vehicle and residential break-ins were reported to the Caribou Police Department.

At around 8 a.m., officers were dispatched to a local business where multiple vehicles had been broken into.

On arrival, they discovered numerous sets of footprints in the snow, which they followed in different directions.

A tip from a citizen, who had captured a photo of a man with a loaded hand truck, led police to Ricky Hammond, 56, of Caribou.

Hammond was detained, and an extensive amount of stolen property was recovered, including items from the reported vehicle burglaries and a residential break-in.

Hammond faces charges including four counts of Class D burglary of a motor vehicle, one count of Class B burglary of a residential dwelling, three counts of Class C theft, and one count of Class E possession of burglary tools.

Officers Craig Peterson and Kevin St. Peter led the investigation and were assisted by the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department.

Hammond was taken to the Aroostook County Jail, and the investigation is ongoing, with additional arrests anticipated.
