BEDFORD — A Nashua man has been arrested after a Bedford Police officer was shot in the leg during a confrontation early Saturday, according to Chief Daniel Douidi.
Jared Masseur, 40, is facing multiple charges including resisting arrest or detention, felon in possession of a dangerous weapon, attempting to take a firearm from a law enforcement officer, and second-degree assault.
Additionally, Masseur had outstanding warrants for similar charges and possession of drugs in other communities.
The incident occurred at 12:53 a.m. when officers on patrol spotted a suspicious vehicle with two occupants parked near Country Inn & Suites on South River Road.
As officers, including a K-9, approached to identify the individuals, the driver, Masseur, fled on foot while the female occupant stayed and cooperated.
A struggle ensued when police tried to apprehend Masseur.
He reached for an officer’s holster, and during the scuffle, the officer’s gun discharged, hitting the officer in the leg.
Despite the injury, the officer managed to secure the weapon.
The second officer’s K-9, Odin, aided in subduing Masseur, who was then arrested at the scene.
Masseur received medical treatment on-site and was evaluated at a hospital before being taken into Bedford Police custody.
The injured officer was transported for treatment to a Manchester hospital.
Masseur remains detained pending a virtual bail hearing with a court magistrate scheduled for later Saturday.
