AUGUSTA — In the early hours of Jan. 4, the Augusta Fire Department and Augusta Police Department responded to a reported fire at a vacant apartment complex on Boothby Street.
Emergency crews were dispatched just before 5 a.m. to 7 Boothby Street, where they discovered flames on the first-floor exterior porch of the three-story building.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze.
Amanda Condon, born Aug. 28, 1987, was identified as a suspect by the police, prompting a call to the Office of State Fire Marshal for assistance.
Fire investigators, upon arrival, undertook an origin and cause investigation and conducted an interview with Condon.
After her interview, Condon was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
Evidence from the scene and statements made by Condon led to her arrest on charges of Arson and Violating Conditions of Release following her release from the hospital.
Condon has since been transported to the Kennebec County Jail, where she is currently being held.
