Exeter man charged with DUI, leaving scene of accident

EXETER — Rhode Island State Troopers arrested a 67-year-old man Friday evening on charges of driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level more than twice the legal limit and failing to stop after a vehicle accident.

Robert J. Silva of Exeter was taken into custody after a traffic stop on Gardiner Road at 5:42 p.m. following a motor vehicle accident in the town.

Silva’s blood-alcohol content registered at 0.210% during Phase I and 0.202% during Phase II of testing, well above the state’s legal limit of 0.08%.

In addition to the DUI charge, Silva faces a charge of Duty to Stop in Accident Resulting in Damage to Vehicle.

Following the arrest, Silva was transported to the State Police – Hope Valley Barracks for processing.

He was arraigned by a Justice of the Peace and released with a summons to appear in Fourth District Court at a later date.
