WORCESTER — Officers from the Worcester Police Department’s Neighborhood Response Team have recovered stolen bronze plaques and veteran grave markers after a theft at St. John’s Cemetery on Dec. 31.
Following the initial report, police conducted checks at local scrap metal facilities, which led to the discovery of the two missing bronze plaques and an additional fifteen veteran grave markers that had been scrapped.
Through their investigation, Worcester police developed probable cause and arrested 64-year-old Arthur Theurer of Temple Street on Jan. 2.
Theurer faces charges including Receiving Stolen Property Over $1,200, Vandalizing a Gravestone, Sale of Stolen Grave Marker, and Receipt of Stolen Grave Marker.
The Worcester Police Department is now seeking assistance from the public to return the recovered veteran grave markers to their rightful places.
