WINDSOR LOCKS — A recent incident at a local McDonald’s on Jan. 1 prompted widespread speculation on social media, leading the Windsor Locks Police Department to release an account of the events to clarify the situation.
On New Year’s Day, at approximately 6 p.m., the Windsor Locks Police Department responded to a report of a missing person with a known history of self-harm and suicidal tendencies.
The individual had been found by the complainants walking on Elm Street, shoeless and drenched from the rain.
Upon agreeing to get into the car with the complainants, the person asked to be taken to McDonald’s on Rt-75 but then leapt from the moving vehicle when the idea of hospitalization for mental health support was suggested.
Police records indicate that the same individual had undergone a psychiatric evaluation on Dec. 30, only to be released the following day.
Officers located the individual inside McDonald’s at about 6:14 p.m. The person was combative upon their arrival and proceeded to lock themselves in a bathroom stall, shouting at the officers without discussing their immediate mental or emotional state.
Given the person’s unkempt appearance, agitated behavior, previous mental health history, and the act of jumping from a moving car, it was determined that another psychiatric evaluation was necessary.
Despite the individual’s resistance and disruptive demeanor, they were eventually removed from the stall with the assistance of paramedics and taken to the hospital on a stretcher.
The Windsor Locks Police Department confirmed that no criminal charges are pending and there were no injuries to the officers or the individual involved.
The department thanked the public for their concern and stated that there would be no further information released regarding the incident.
