Waltham police recover illegal firearm, two arrested after traffic stop

WALTHAM — Waltham Police Department patrol officers and detectives made two arrests Thursday after a motor vehicle stop led to the discovery of an illegally possessed firearm.

The stop, conducted on Crescent Street near Woerd Ave, resulted in the recovery of a loaded 9MM semi-automatic handgun equipped with a high-capacity 17-round magazine and a chambered round.

Authorities charged a 21-year-old Waltham resident and a 21-year-old Marlboro resident with multiple offenses, including Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Carrying a Large Capacity Firearm without a License, Resisting Arrest, and Assault & Battery on a Police Officer, among other related charges.

The incident remains under investigation.
