SPRINGFIELD — A 23-year-old Springfield man was arrested early Wednesday after police found an AR-15 rifle, a second firearm, and ammunition in his vehicle following a series of ShotSpotter activations.

Everton Daley was apprehended on the 100 block of Westford Circle at about 2:50 a.m. after Springfield Police Officers responded to the automated gunfire detection system’s alerts on Marlborough Street, Westford Circle, Albermarle Street, and Norfolk Street, which occurred within a minute of each other around 2:30 a.m.

Officers saw a vehicle leaving the area of Marlborough Street and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the car did not immediately pull over.

The vehicle finally stopped on Westford Circle, where a passenger fled on foot and escaped.

Daley, the driver, walked away from the car but was detained by the police.

Upon inspecting the vehicle, officers spotted the AR-15 rifle with a 30-round magazine nearby and a handgun with a magazine under the driver’s seat.

They also found additional ammunition and spent shell casings inside the car.

Daley faces multiple charges, including carrying a firearm without a license, improper storage of a large capacity firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card, possession of a high-capacity magazine/feeding device, carrying an unloaded rifle/shotgun on a public way, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, failure to stop for police, and resisting arrest.
