Fairfield man killed in early morning off-ramp crash

FAIRFIELD — A Fairfield man was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer unit in the early hours of Jan. 3 while attempting to cross an off-ramp on Interstate 95.

Maine State Police said Mark Michaud, 49, was hit at mile marker 132 southbound near the Exit 132 off-ramp around 3:37 a.m. The truck was operated by Damon Sylvia, 19, of Milford.

Emergency crews responded to a 911 call and upon arrival, troopers from the Maine State Police found Michaud deceased.

The Crash Reconstruction Unit was called to analyze the scene, and the Commercial Motor Vehicle Unit inspected the tractor-trailer.

Authorities closed the exit ramp during the investigation but later reopened it.

Troop I troopers are continuing the investigation into the incident.
