SANDGATE — A fire that broke out in a home on Chunks Brook Road Wednesday morning claimed the lives of two individuals and injured two others, according to the Vermont State Police.
The blaze was reported around 11:30 a.m., prompting a response from multiple fire departments across Vermont and New York.
Firefighters managed to contain the fire after some time.
The injured parties were taken to New York hospitals, but details regarding the severity of their injuries have not been disclosed.
State police located the bodies of the two deceased at the scene.
The Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington is set to conduct autopsies on Thursday to determine the cause and manner of death.
Investigators from the Vermont Department of Public Safety Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit are working to establish the origin and cause of the fire.
They are joined by the State Police Criminal Division and Field Force Division in the ongoing investigation.
