TRUMBULL — A Bridgeport teenager was taken into custody by Trumbull Police after committing an armed robbery of a dirt bike on Dec. 31.
Giovanni DeJesus, 19, of East Main Street, Bridgeport, faces charges including Armed Robbery and other related crimes following the incident that occurred around 5 p.m. near the “Rails to Trails” pathway between White Plains Road and Quarry Road.
The 14-year-old victim told officers he was confronted by a group of individuals on dirt bikes while riding near the pump station.
DeJesus, who was among the group, allegedly pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded the bike.
After the victim complied, DeJesus fled southward into Bridgeport.
Bridgeport Police located DeJesus on Palisade Avenue shortly after the robbery was reported to neighboring departments.
They arrested him and seized a Glock handgun, which was later confirmed to be involved in the robbery.
DeJesus, a convicted felon with a history of weapon-related offenses and recently released from prison, was also identified as being listed on the state’s Deadly Weapon Offender Registry.
The handgun in question, a Glock model 19 with a “switch” device converting it to fully automatic, was equipped with a 30-round extended magazine.
Trumbull detectives recovered dozens of rounds of 9 mm ammunition and are investigating the origin of the weapon.
The stolen dirt bike was found in the basement of DeJesus’ residence and subsequently returned to the rightful owner.
DeJesus has been charged with multiple offenses, including Robbery 1st degree, Larceny 2nd degree, and Illegal Possession of an Assault Weapon, among others.
He is being held on a $300,000 bond and is due in Bridgeport Superior Court on Jan. 14.
