NEW HAVEN — A vehicle reported stolen was involved in a major motor vehicle accident (MVA) early Thursday on the 930 block of Quinnipiac Avenue, resulting in serious injuries and a large-scale police response.

New Haven authorities were called to the scene of a single-car crash at 3:26 a.m. where firefighters used the jaws of life and other cutting tools to free the driver and at least one passenger from the wreckage.

Both were transported to a local hospital, with at least one person in serious condition.

Reports also indicate that possibly one or more occupants fled the scene on foot following the crash.

Police have blocked off a significant portion of Quinnipiac Avenue to conduct their investigation and clear the scene.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution when driving through the area or to seek alternative routes to avoid delays.

The investigation into the incident and search for the suspects who fled is ongoing.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of those involved or the condition of the hospitalized victims.
