Man charged with negligent driving after racing other vehicle on I-89 in St. Albans

ST. ALBANS — A Swanton man was charged with negligent operation of a vehicle after a high-speed chase on Interstate 89, Vermont State Police reported.

On Dec. 28 at about 12:40 p.m., a motorist alerted the police to two vehicles racing on I-89 near Mile Marker 104 in Milton.

A state trooper later spotted the vehicles near Mile Marker 115 in St. Albans and managed to stop one of them on Highgate Road after it left the interstate.

The driver, a juvenile from Colchester, received a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint for speeding (85 mph in a 65 mph zone).

The second driver, identified as 20-year-old Shane Robtoy from Swanton, fled at a high speed.

A Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy later saw the vehicle driving recklessly on Carter Hill Road in Highgate.

Robtoy was subsequently located at a residence in Swanton Village.

Robtoy is set to appear in Franklin Superior Court, Criminal Division, to respond to the charge of negligent operation.
