NEWPORT — The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Orleans County and surrounding areas, with 6 to 14 inches of snow and wind gusts reaching 45 mph expected through Friday morning.
The storm, which begins Wednesday, could cause sporadic power outages as strong winds and heavy snow strain tree limbs and power lines. The most severe wind conditions are forecast for Wednesday night through Thursday.
Areas of blowing snow may significantly reduce visibility, making travel hazardous throughout the region. Higher elevations could see greater snow accumulations.
The warning remains in effect until 7 a.m. Friday. Officials advise travelers to carry emergency supplies, including flashlights, food, and water.
