PROCTOR — Vermont State Police are investigating a series of vehicle thefts that occurred early in the morning on Dec. 31.
According to police, they were alerted to a motor vehicle theft at 30 West St. around 4:30 a.m. The vehicle’s owner, Richard Bathalon, 57, of Proctor, discovered his vehicle missing.
Earlier in the night, around 2:45 a.m., two individuals dressed in black were spotted walking up and down driveways near Park Street and Chatterton Park.
Despite a search, troopers were unable to find the suspects.
Later that morning, the stolen vehicle was found at 7:25 a.m. in the parking lot of 77 Grove St. in Rutland City.
The vehicle was processed for evidence and returned to Bathalon.
At 9 a.m., another report came in from Mary Brough, 68, of Proctor, of an attempted vehicle theft at 4 School St. Due to the proximity and timing of the incidents, authorities suspect the crimes are connected.
