Sasco Beach reopens after police respond to nearby incident

FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield Police Department has announced that Sasco Beach has been reopened to the public following a response to a disturbance at a nearby residence earlier today.

At 12:28 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance at a residence within two miles of Sasco Beach.

A 58-year-old male involved in the incident subsequently traveled to Sasco Beach, where he was found by officers with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is tasked with determining the official cause of death.

Police have emphasized that this was an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Out of respect for the family’s privacy, authorities have not disclosed the identity of the man or the exact location of the residence involved in the initial disturbance.
