ROCKLAND — Rockland Police Department’s New Year’s Eve OUI detail, part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, resulted in multiple arrests and traffic stops on Dec. 31.
The detail, supported by a Maine Bureau of Highway Safety grant, led to 17 traffic stops with three individuals arrested for Operating Under the Influence (OUI).
In a separate incident during the operation, an officer on an unrelated stop observed a hit-and-run at the intersection of Park Street and Broadway.
The driver who attempted to flee was apprehended and faces charges including felony OUI with priors, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and Operating Without a License.
Earlier in the day, before the OUI detail commenced, Rockland Police arrested 30-year-old Brianna Willis of Waldoboro.
Willis, found unconscious behind the wheel, was in possession of approximately 10 grams of crack cocaine.
She has been charged with OUI and Possession of Schedule Drugs, the latter enhanced to a felony status due to prior convictions and the drug amount.
Rockland Police announced plans for additional grant-funded traffic safety operations in the months ahead, underscoring their dedication to proactive enforcement and the safety of the community.
They urge the public to plan for sober transportation when consuming alcohol or other impairing substances.
