Waterbury police seize drugs, ammunition during traffic stop

WATERBURY — A routine patrol by Waterbury police led to a significant seizure of drugs, ammunition, and cash during a traffic stop on Dec. 30.

At around 4:49 p.m., officers observed several traffic violations involving a vehicle in the area of Coe Street and High Street.

During the traffic stop, police discovered and confiscated $1,018 in U.S currency, .45 caliber ammunition, and 18 glassine bags of cocaine packaged for sale.

Chaz Butler, 33, from Waterbury, was arrested on multiple charges, including misuse of a marker plate, interfering with an officer, operating a drug factory, criminal possession of ammunition, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.

Butler, who is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing firearms and/or ammunition, is currently being held on a $75,000 bond.

He awaits court arraignment later today.
