North Providence man among four arrested in overnight drug and traffic offenses

NORTH PROVIDENCE — In a series of unrelated events, Rhode Island State Troopers made several arrests for drug possession and traffic violations overnight.

At 11:46 p.m., troopers apprehended Brian Keene, 44, of North Smithfield, during a traffic stop on Route 146 North.

Keene was charged with possession of a controlled substance, specifically less than 10 grams of cocaine.

After processing at the Lincoln Woods Barracks, Keene was arraigned and released on a promise to appear at the Third Division District Court on a future date.

Shortly after midnight, at 12:25 a.m., Claribel Fernandez, 52, of Providence, was stopped on Douglas Avenue and arrested on multiple charges, including cocaine possession, driving with a suspended license, driving under the influence, obstructing an officer, and refusal to submit to a chemical test, marking her second offense.

Fernandez was taken to the Lincoln Woods Barracks, where she refused processing.

She is being held for morning arraignment at the Sixth Division District Court and will be presented as a violator.

At 12:10 a.m., a 911 call regarding a driver going the wrong way on Route 146 North led to the arrest of Eliah Grant, 75, of Woonsocket.

Grant faced charges of reckless driving and other offenses against public safety.

After processing and arraignment at Lincoln Woods Barracks, Grant was released with a future court date at the Third Division District Court.

Finally, at 2:47 a.m., Brian Gonzalez, 22, of Woonsocket, was arrested after a vehicle stop on Central Avenue in Pawtucket.

Gonzalez was charged with possession of a controlled substance, identified as crack cocaine.

Post-arraignment at the Lincoln Woods Barracks, he was released with a date to appear at the Sixth Division District Court.
