FALMOUTH — A motor vehicle crash on Route 1 early this morning resulted in a fatality, the Falmouth Police Department reported.
Authorities were alerted to the incident at approximately 2:20 a.m. and promptly arrived at the scene, where they found a vehicle that had collided with a traffic light pole at 309 U.S. Route 1.
The vehicle was on fire upon the officers’ arrival.
The Falmouth Fire Department extinguished the blaze and a deceased individual was located inside the vehicle.
The identity of the person and the cause of death have yet to be determined and will involve the Office of Chief Medical Examiner.
The Falmouth Police Department is conducting an investigation in collaboration with the Windham Police Department.
Accident Reconstructionists from both departments are involved to determine the specifics of the crash.
The road conditions were noted as icy at the time of the accident.
