ST. ALBANS — A St. Albans man was arrested after police recovered a stolen vehicle and subsequently linked him to a supermarket robbery earlier this month.
Travis Merritt, 44, was apprehended on Dec. 28 at 4:46 p.m. when Vermont State Police located the stolen vehicle he was driving in St. Albans.
The St. Albans Police Department charged Merritt with aggravated operation without owner’s consent and two counts of driving with a criminally suspended license.
Following his arrest, Merritt was held at Northwest State Correctional Facility on $7,500 bail.
He is due to appear in Franklin County Superior Courthouse on Dec. 30 at 1 p.m.
Further investigations by the St. Albans Police Department, in coordination with the Franklin County States Attorney’s Office, led to additional charges against Merritt for an assault and robbery at Hannaford Supermarket on Dec. 24.
The new charges come with an additional $10,000 bail, and Merritt is scheduled for a subsequent court appearance on Dec. 30 at 1:30 p.m.
Officials have not released further details regarding the incidents.
