PUTNAM — A local ATV driver faces multiple charges after allegedly causing property damage and fleeing a minor traffic accident, police said.

According to the Putnam Police Department, officers were dispatched to Providence St. near the Putnam Municipal Complex at about 4:08 p.m. on Dec. 28 following a 911 call about a collision involving a car and an ATV.

The ATV driver reportedly left the scene before officers arrived.

Investigators said the ATV exited a sidewalk into traffic, slowed suddenly, and was struck by a following vehicle.

The car sustained minor damage, and no injuries were reported at the scene.

Prior to the accident, police found that the same ATV had been driven across the lawn of the Putnam Municipal Complex, causing significant damage.

Through their investigation, officers identified the ATV operator as 20-year-old Cody Janos of Putnam.

Janos has been charged with first-degree criminal mischief, evading responsibility, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, operating without a license, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, reckless driving, and failure to have stop lamps or turn signals.

Janos was released on a $10,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Danielson Superior Court on Jan. 8.
