Man arrested for driving stolen vehicle, multiple charges in West Bridgewater

WEST BRIDGEWATER — Chief Timothy Nixon of the West Bridgewater Police Department announced the arrest of a Brockton man for operating a stolen vehicle and multiple other offenses.

Elvis Andrade, 32, of Brockton, was arrested and faces several charges including receiving a stolen motor vehicle, possession of a burglarious instrument, receiving stolen property under $1,200, motor vehicle operator refusing to identify self, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, number plate violation to conceal ID, and refusing to identify self.

On Sunday, Dec. 29, at around 1:53 a.m., Officer Brian C. Smith Jr. was patrolling the town center when he conducted a license plate check on a vehicle at a red light.

The check revealed the plate was stolen.

Officer Smith observed the vehicle pick up an additional passenger and initiated a traffic stop near 31 South Main St., calling for backup.

Officers Daniel Sullivan and Richard Flaherty responded.

Investigation at the scene revealed the license plates were stolen from Brockton on Dec. 13, and the vehicle’s VIN was linked to a car reported stolen from Stoughton on Dec. 2.

Andrade, who initially refused to reveal his identity, was identified by police during the investigation.

A search of the vehicle uncovered a screwdriver, passports, debit and credit cards, and IDs in various names.

Further investigation showed that Andrade had an active warrant from Stoughton Police, issued on Dec. 24, related to multiple car break-ins, vehicle thefts, and credit card fraud.

He had a total of five active arrest warrants.

Andrade is scheduled for arraignment on Monday at Brockton District Court.
