NAHANT — A Lynn man has been arrested and charged by the Nahant Police Department for operating under the influence and other offenses after being caught driving on a local beach.
Angel Montas, 21, faces numerous charges, including operating under the influence of liquor, assault with a dangerous weapon on a person over the age of 60, assault with a dangerous weapon, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, operating a motor vehicle with an obstructed/non-transparent window, marked lanes violation, no inspection/sticker, and number plate violation.
The incident occurred on Thursday, Dec. 26, at around 1:45 p.m., when Nahant Police responded to a report of a vehicle on the sand at the Nahant Beach Reservation.
According to police, Montas made multiple trips onto Long Beach, driving at high speeds near pedestrians, performing doughnuts, and even entering the ocean with his vehicle.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported amongst the pedestrians present during the incident.
Montas was taken into custody following an on-scene investigation.
He was arraigned the next day in Lynn District Court and is scheduled to return for a pre-trial hearing on Jan. 23.
