1 min read

CRANSTON — Last night at approximately 5:52 p.m., Cranston Police patrol officers responded to a shoplifting and trespassing complaint at the Sunglass Hut in Garden City Shopping Center.

An employee identified a male subject, familiar to both the store and police from previous incidents, who had allegedly stolen nine pairs of Versace sunglasses valued at a total of $3,656.

The suspect, already banned from the premises with a “no trespassing” order, fled on foot and was seen entering a nearby vehicle.

Shortly after, officers received reports of a car that had crashed on the access road to Top Golf from Pontiac Avenue.

Several individuals were observed fleeing the crash site on foot.

Despite a thorough search by officers and a CPD K-9 team, the suspects were not located.

However, new Versace sunglasses were discovered inside the crashed vehicle and along the fence of the Top Golf property.

Authorities plan to issue an arrest warrant for the identified suspect on charges of Felony Shoplifting and Trespassing.

The investigation is ongoing, and no additional details have been released at this time.

The Cranston Police Department clarifies that the incident was not a robbery as no force was used to commit the theft.
