AUBURN — Auburn Police detectives, working with Massachusetts State Police, apprehended 28-year-old Murtadha Dheyab on Thursday, Dec. 26, following a foot chase, marking the end of a search that began earlier in the year after he was charged with several firearms violations.
Dheyab, a resident of Auburn, was initially arrested in June by Worcester Police for a series of firearms-related offenses, including carrying a loaded and unlicensed firearm, improper storage of a firearm, possession of a large capacity firearm and feeding device, possession of ammunition without a Firearm Identification (FID) Card, and resisting arrest.
Following the incident in Worcester, a warrant for Dheyab’s arrest was issued in the fall.
Auburn Police Detectives and the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section (VFAS) have since been attempting to locate him.
The arrest occurred after Detective Tyler Bresse, conducting surveillance at an address linked to Dheyab, saw an individual he believed to be Dheyab leave the residence and get into the passenger side of a vehicle while concealing his face.
Detective Bresse initiated a traffic stop after the vehicle departed, which led to Dheyab fleeing on foot.
Despite Dheyab’s attempt to avoid capture by running through multiple yards, Detective Bresse, with the assistance of Detective Chipman and Detective Alexandrovich, successfully apprehended him after a brief chase.
Dheyab is now facing additional charges from the Auburn Police Department, including disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
