HARTFORD — A serious two-vehicle collision occurred on Interstate 89 southbound near mile marker 8/4 early Friday morning, resulting in one driver being hospitalized.
According to the Vermont State Police, the crash happened at about 7:12 a.m. under clear weather and road conditions.
Rick Bowen, 70, of Sharon, was driving a 2008 Honda Accord when he reportedly operated the vehicle negligently, leading to the crash with a 2020 Buick Envision driven by Kurt Riche, 51, of Middlebury.
Bowen, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
His vehicle was totaled in the crash.
Riche, who was wearing a seat belt, did not suffer any injuries, and his vehicle was also reported as totaled.
Troopers from the Royalton Barracks, who responded to the scene, cited Bowen and released him.
The investigation was conducted with assistance from Hartford Police, Fire and EMS, as well as the Agency of Transportation.
No further details were provided about the nature of Bowen’s negligent driving or any potential charges.
Traffic flow on I-89 was affected for several hours as emergency crews worked at the scene.
