MYSTIC — A motor vehicle crash on Yetter Road early Friday morning left one person with serious injuries, prompting a multi-agency response and an ongoing investigation by local authorities.
At around 8:23 a.m., Groton Emergency Dispatch received a distress call about a Toyota pickup truck that had careened off the road and down an embankment.
Groton Town Police were quick to reach the scene, where they discovered the vehicle’s sole occupant trapped inside.
Rescue efforts were undertaken by personnel from the Old Mystic Fire Department Heavy Rescue, Mystic Fire Department, Mystic River Ambulance, and L&M Paramedics.
The individual was eventually freed from the wreckage and airlifted by Life Star helicopter to Hartford Hospital.
To aid in the investigation, the Southeastern Connecticut Regional Traffic Unit was called in, bringing together accident reconstruction specialists from the Town of Groton, Stonington, Ledyard, and City of Groton police departments.
Investigators from the Groton Police Department Criminal Investigation Division also provided assistance.
