Branford officer thwarts ATM theft at local gas station

BRANFORD — A Branford Police officer on routine patrol disrupted an attempted ATM theft at Evan’s Mobil on North Main Street in the early hours of December 22.

The officer encountered the suspects while they were attempting to remove the ATM, prompting them to flee the scene in a stolen vehicle.

Although the ATM was left damaged at the scene, it was not successfully stolen.

Following the discovery, the officer engaged in a brief pursuit of the suspects’ vehicle.

The chase was called off shortly after when the suspects began to drive at dangerously high speeds, with the officer deeming the discontinuation necessary for public safety.

The stolen vehicle was later found unoccupied and ablaze in Hamden.

The Branford Police Department is actively investigating the incident, pursuing several leads to identify the culprits.

Authorities are appealing to the public for any information related to the attempted theft or any suspicious activities noticed in the vicinity.
